July 2
We expect a string of 90F days for the next week to go with the last three or so days. I hadn't intended to water since we had several days with heavy rain but several plants needed some water. I think I said that yesterday. I won't be doing much gardening and for short stints.
What I am reading today:
This provides a good analysis of our general condition from the viewpoint of a Canadian with extensive experience traveling in the U.S. The only thing he doesn't mention is the $750+ billion defense budget.
From Foreign Policy In Focus on the U.S. response to the pandemic. "American Lunacy," indeed, except that we are still in the first wave not the second. Our governor just delayed going into the last phase of re-opening. Our case rate has been on a plateau for a month but hasn't gone any further down so that is probably prudent.
Tomdispatch on a second monument near Mt. Rushmore featuring four who are most responsible for our current political/legal situation--a monument of dishonor. Me? I would rather consign them to oblivion that deface another mountain.
July 3
Another hot day. Not doing much outside besides pulling the stray weed, watering, and planning what to harvest or trim next.
